Airport runway lights go off for third time

The runway lighting of Dabolim airport failed again on Saturday evening for the third time in less than a month.

According to sources, the lighting system failed at around 6.30 pm on Saturday evening prompting the naval authorities to immediately swing into action and undertake the repairs of the technical snag.

 Sources informed further that the the naval authorities rectified the snag within half an hour and lighting was restored at around 6.45 pm. They said in view of the immediate repairs, there were no cancellation or diversion of flights arriving at the airport.

When contacted AAI Director BCH Negi informed that there were no delays, cancellation and diversion of flights on Saturday evening after the lighting system failed. The problem was fixed immediately, he added.
