MARGAO
A day after Margao Municipal Council Chief Officer Sidhivinayak Naik lodged a complaint against Ashraf Pandiyal in connection with the Gandhi market vendors row, Rajendra Ajgaonkar, brother of Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar lodged a counter complaint with the Margao police alleging that the Chief Officer had insulted him by making a reference to his Scheduled Caste.
Ashraf Pandyal, who is the secretary of the Gandhi Market Vendors Association, also lodged his complaint against the Chief Officer for abusing him and issuing threats to his life.
In separate complaints, both Rajendra Ajgaonkar, who is the president of the Gandhi Market Vendors Association and Pandiyal, has urged the police to initiate necessary action against the CO as per the law.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the Gandhi Market Vendors Association led by Rajendra and Pandiyal called on the Director of Municipal Administration, Dr Tariq Thomas and submitted all the documents in support of their claims that the Margao Municipality had over the years issued NOCs for electrical connections for the sopo vendors based on the 2001 Council resolution.
The duo also submitted for the consideration of the DMA the NOCs issued by Chief Officer Sidhivinayak Naik himself, while demanding stern action against him.
Ajgaonkar later told the media that the DMA has promised to go through the documents and seek explanation from the Chief Officer before initiating action.
