Calangute Police arrested a Haryana native with a country-made pistol while his associate made good his escape in Calangute on Thursday evening.
The suspect, Sushil Jay Bhagwan was first held by locals and later handed over to police.
According to Calangute Police, the caretaker of a multi-storied complex at Gaura-vaddo, Calangute while in the process of examining a mal-functioning elevator found two unknown persons sitting on the terrace.
When he questioned their antecedents, one of the accused hit the caretaker on his head with the butt of the country-made pistol and took off, police informed.
The caretaker then raised an alarm and the locals in the busy area managed to catch hold of one of the suspects while his associate escaped.
Calangute Police arrived at the spot and took the suspect into custody while also attaching a country-made pistol.
Locals said the suspects had fired one round from the pistol but the police denied the same.
The suspect has been arrested under the relevant sections of the Arms Act.
Calangute Police are investigating further.
