A minor landslide was reported at the hillock along the road leading to the Harbour area and locals have requested authorities to immediately act in the matter, after fearing that the road could cave in at any moment.
Speaking to reporters, social activist Xencor Polgi said the road leading to Harbour is widely used by office-goers of the port, customs and other port related departments and also by heavy vehicles carrying cargo.
"There has been rains and this has led to a landslide in the Harbour area. Rainwater from the hill gushes down at full speed and has washed away the ground along the road and even below the crash barricades along the road,” said Polgi.
“We fear the road can get washed away and authorities must act immediately. The road is used by heavy vehicles who can be caught unaware and this can lead to accidents, causing loss of life and property.”
Polgi said authorities must find a way to allow rainwater to flow smoothly without affecting the road and to clear the gutter and drains to ensure smooth flow of this water.
“Heavy rains are expected in the monsoon and this could lead to a bigger landslide in the area. The electricity department must also repair the street lights as the darkness could cause further danger to motorists and several people travelling on this road,” said Polgi.
