Citing health issues and inconvenience to locals, the Aldona gram sabha on Sunday opposed the decision of the panchayat to construct a material recovery facility (MRF) near the Aldona Primary Health Centre.
The MRF is a provision to store and sort out dry garbage of the village.
Several locals said the facility will emanate foul smell which will create problems to people who visit the health centre.
They demanded that the MRF may be relocated at another site.
The Village Sarpanch Subhash Raut agreed to the suggestion and set up a special committee to inspect and locate a new site for the facility
Panchayat Secretary, Chandan Chodankar presented the village budget for 2021-22.
A resident of the village, Tio D’Souza demanded for some time to study the budget and accordingly the panchayat decided to defer the budget at the next gram sabha.
During the discussion on the budget the sarpanch informed that the panchayat was not getting any grants from the government.
Aldona resident, Carlos Ferreira suggested that a proposal seeking a grant should be sent to the government and if the government fails to take any concrete steps on the proposal then it should be challenged in court.
Another villager Oldrin Pereira raised the issue of Tamnar power project and floating jetty and opined both these projects were not in the interest of the village.
The sarpanch informed that the panchayat has so far not received any proposal from the government on both the projects.
Pereira also objected to the Rs 13 lakh expenditure made on stray cattle.
“The panchayat should avoid taking action against cattle from outside the jurisdiction of the panchayat to save cost,” he said.
