Making a case for a market project in Tivim, locals on Sunday said for the last several years the village has failed to get a good market and urged the panchayat to take up the project in earnest.
“A market is the need of the hour. Our chief minister has been saying that all local bodies have to be self-sufficient. It’s high time the panchayat sets up a full-fledged market in the village,” said Robert Colaco, a local from Tivim.
Colaco was speaking at the village gram sabha which was chaired by Sarpanch, Sharmila Gadekar.
Sarpanch, Sharmila Gadekar admitted that the shed was a temporary structure and the panchayat would soon take necessary steps in the matter.
Tivim locals also opposed construction of towers for a power project as it would affect the livelihood of the villagers.
It was informed that around seven large towers carrying high tension wire channels would come up in the village.
Colaco also raised the issue of Tivim football ground. He said the development of the ground has been stalled for the last 10 years.
It was proposed at the gram sabha to convene an early meeting of the sports committee and to follow-up the matter with concerned departments.
