Aldona resident held for duping 50 young overseas job seekers

The Margao police on Tuesday nabbed a  resident of Aldona for allegedly duping around 50 youngsters to the tune  of Rs 15 lakh under the pretext of promising overseas jobs at Canada,  USA and Singapore.

Accused Arthur Kennedy Lourenco has been booked for cheating under the IPC and under the provisions of the Emigration Act.  

Addressing the media, Margao police station in-charge, PI  Kapil Nayak informed that the accused was nabbed based on a complaint  received from a 21-year old victim Fernandes Malcom Xavier, a resident  of Gandhi market. In his complaint, Fernandes alleged that between  November 30, 2017 till date, the accused opened his office in the heart  of the commercial capital without having valid recruitment licence from  the protector of Emigrants, Government of India.

 He claimed that the accused induced him and 50 others to  pay an amount of Rs 67,000 each on the pretext of providing them jobs in  USA, Canada and Singapore. “The Margao police has registered a case  under section 420 of the IPC and under section 10 & 24 of the  Emigration Act,” PI Kapik said.
