An attempt to kidnap a 12-year-old boy from Amona-Sankhali was foiled by the quick and alert action of the boy on Thursday morning.
According to reports, the incident took place at about 11.15 am when the Std 7 student of a government high school in Amona was walking home.
Along the way, a car stopped in front him. The driver and three passengers were in the vehicle.
One of them told him in Hindi that his mother had gone to work, while his father had sent them to take him to his home.
The boy became suspicious and asked them for his father’s name and this caught the four men by surprise. The boy said that he would call his father and then put his hand in the bag.
The four men panicked and fled in their car.
Acting swiftly, the boy managed to partially note down the last four numbers of the vehicle’s registration plate and that it was a Maharashtra-registered vehicle. The middle letters had been concealed.
The boy ran to his house and reported the matter to his mother. They later went to the Bicholim police station and notified the police. The boy narrated the details and provide the partial registration of the vehicle. The boy also told police that the four persons were wearing black clothes.
Bicholim police began investigations and suspect that the car had travelled to Amona via Marcela. Some CCTV cameras along the route caught a glimpse of the vehicle.
The incident caused concern among residents in Amona-Sankhali area, especially after a similar kidnapping attempt in Bhuipal-Honda in Sattari.
