All eyes on MUCB meet today; 35 shareholders to participate

As the Madgaum Urban Cooperative Bank (MUCB) is bracing up to hold the adjourned general body meeting in virtual mode on Sunday due to the COVID restrictions, around 35 shareholders are believed to have registered for the virtual meet.

Bank Chairman Kishore Narvekar, Board of Directors, besides Managing Director Kishore Amonkar will all sit at one place and will answer to questions from the shareholders in virtual mode when the meeting takes place at around 9.30 am on Sunday.

Though only two items are left on the meeting agenda to be transacted at the adjourned general body meeting, the bank management expects the shareholders, who have registered for the virtual meeting, to raise issues of the bank status on ‘Any Other Business’ matter.

The December 26, 2020 annual general body meeting of the MUCB was adjourned after the shareholders demanded the names of the defaulters, responsible for the present state of the bank.

While the chairman had assured the shareholders to furnish the list of defaulters, it was later decided not to provide the names on grounds that the rules does not provide for disclosure of the list of defaulters.

Incidentally, the MUCB Board later decided not to hold the adjourned meeting citing the COVID pandemic restrictions and the presence of large number of shareholders for the meeting on December 26 last.

In the meantime, Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has petitioned to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to request the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for the immediate redressal of grievances faced by the depositors of the Madgaum Urban Cooperative Bank.

In his letter, Reginaldo complimented the Chief Minister for his recent statement that the government will talk to the RBI in order to protect the interest of depositors.

“For the past many months, the depositors of the MUCB have been facing severe problems for the withdrawal of their money. Currently, the depositors are not able to withdraw from the Madgaum Urban Cooperative Bank, Curtorim Branch,” he said, saying that the depositors are anxious to know the decision of RBI in this regard.

The MLA further informed the Chief Minister that he too has been following with the RBI on the immense hardship caused to the depositors of Madgaum Urban Cooperative Bank Ltd.
