The Electricity Department went on a power disconnection drive in the city here on Saturday, even disconnecting supply to offices owing Rs 491 arrears to the department.
Caught in the sudden action by the Power Department were recent buyers of office space as they had to bear the brunt of the building owner.
Sources informed that the power officials descended at a complex near the Hospicio hospital and went about disconnecting supply and sealing the meters in the complex.
Taken completely by surprise, a couple of buyers who had recently moved in the complex later realised that their meters were sealed as the owner did not clear the bills amounting to Rs 491.
Wilson Luis, a resident of Curtorim, who had just moved in his office earlier this week, cried foul, saying this certainly is not the way to go about recovering power dues.
“I have not even set up my office, but I had to face disconnecting of power supply for the bill of the owner amounting to just Rs 491. Power to another office was also disconnected because the owner did not clear the bill amounting to Rs 491, he said, while saying he will take up the matter with Power Minister Nilesh Cabral.
Sources said the department disconnected the electricity connections and sealed the power meters of shops, offices and residential flats over non-payment of power bills.
