MARGAO
Day one of the Old Market fair saw a relatively lukewarm response from the public, bringing a sigh of relief to the traffic cops manning and regulating traffic at the congested KTC bus stand-Old Market circle.
With the hawkers still in the process of setting up stalls and Thursday being a week day, there was relatively less turnout of shoppers at the fair.
Margao Traffic Cell in-charge, PI Gautam Salunke informed that the traffic situation was well under control on Day one of the Old Market fair. “We had deployed our personnel in strength to meet any traffic situation at the Old Market,” he said.
The Traffic cell, however, has decided to leave its manpower back at the Old Market during the weekend, when the Nehru stadium will play host to the ISL football match on Saturday and Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to visit Goa, including Mopa on Sunday. “Though staff from across Goa will be mobilised for the PM’s visit, we will leave skeletal staff at the Old Market,” he added.
However, the stretch of the road from KTC bus stand to the Old Market circle saw traffic congestion to the ongoing sewerage works.
