In an interesting development, the Margao Municipal Council has dashed off a letter to the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) to provide the list of vendors to whom the PDA had allotted space for the feast fair.
The letter sent to the PDA late Wednesday evening comes against the backdrop of questions raised in many quarters why the civic body was not keen on moping up revenue by way of licence fees from stalls set up on the SGPDA ground.
MMC Chairperson Damu Shirodkar had told the media at the briefing earlier on the day on Wednesday that the civic body will impose only sopo and garbage fees on the stalls set up on the SGDPA ground.
The decision to dash off the letter to the SGDPA also assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of reports that the SGPDA had paid lakhs of rupees as revenue to the civic body during the Purumentachem fest in June last.
In the letter, the MMC Chief Officer drew the attention of the SGPDA member secretary that many vendors have set up stalls including a giant wheel and amusement park on the PDA ground. The Chief Officer further stated that no vendors have approached the Council for obtaining the necessary permission as required under the Municipality Act.
While asking the PDA to submit a list of vendors doing business on the PDA ground, the Chief Officer said the list is required to take further necessary action as per the provisions of the Municipality Act.
