MARGAO
In an interesting development, which has put to rest speculations over the merger of the Goa Forward Party with the BJP, the regional party has decided to strengthen the organization at all levels.
At the State Executive meeting which was held in full strength and chaired by party supremo, Vijai Sardesai at the Goemkar Ghor, the Goa Forward has resolved to strengthen the party at all levels, to identify and pursue issues facing Goa, and to actively partner with Goemkars at grassroots.
“We emphatically and unanimously endorsed the 'regionalistic' intent on which our party was founded, and reiterated our commitment to uphold and defend the interests of Goa and Goemkars without fear,” said Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai after the meeting.
The decision taken by the State Executive to strengthen the regional party assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of strong speculations that the Goa Forward Chief may merge the party into the BJP. Though these speculations had been doing the rounds in political circles soon after the announcement of the election, recent statements issued by the Goa Forward chief and party vice-president Durgadas Kamat targeting the government had given indications to the contrary.
That the Goa Forward Chief has personally come out with the statement on the Zuari Industries issue assumes significance, giving clear indications that the regional party is out to take on the government on the issue.
Sources in the regional party further informed that the Goa Forward is bracing up to play the opposition role inside the Assembly and outside.
