Balli PHC warns of action against stakeholders of Cutbona jetty

MARGAO

The Balli Primary Health centre has threatened to crack a whip against the stakeholders at the Cutbona fishing jetty after a joint inspection unearthed a couple of breeding sites at the jetty.

The PHC has also directed Sulabh International to carry out regular de-sludging of the septic tank and cover the soak pit with a concrete lid instead of plastic.

In a series of directions, Balli Primary Health Officer Dr Mamata Kakodkar gave Sulabh International around 10 days to carry out the changes or face action under the provisions of the Goa Public Health Act, 1985.

Similarly, the Health Officer issued directions to the Chairman of the Cutbona Fisheries Cooperative Society after the inspection found stagnant water in front of the ice plant. The inspection had further unearthed tyres with water and breeding near the ice plant, besides water left open near the plant.

While giving society 10 days to abate the nuisance, the Health Officer has warned of action under the Goa Public Health Act.

Similar action has been mooted against a fisheries company after the inspection found creates with breeding sites near the fisheries office, besides abandoned motorcycles with breeding near the crates and plastic bottles and thermocol pieces.
