Amol Gaonkar joined as the new Deputy Collector of Canacona and will also hold charge of Canacona Municipal Council chief officer, after having replaced Pundalik Khorjuvenkar on Wednesday.
It may be recalled that Khorjuvenkar in April had replaced the former deputy collector and CMC chief officer Chandrakant Shetkar, who was transferred to North Goa.
Many residents, including the councillors, had been unhappy with Shetkar's style of functioning and had hoped that Khorjuvenkar would address those issues which had been neglected by his predecessor.
Khorjuvenkar recently issued a conditional order under Section 133 of Cr.PC to a land owner in whose property a mobile tower was found erected overnight.
Sources said that Khorjuvenkar had also shown interest in attend to public issues and councillors had hoped that he would tackle the controversial activity at the eco-sensitive Konko Island.
Khorjuvenkar was, however, shunted out of the taluka and has been replaced by Gaonkar.
“The same hopes now rest on the newcomer, who joined on Wednesday,” said Patnem Councillor Guru (Maruti) Komarpant.
