PANAJI
A group of Panaji citizens and youth who innovatively dressed in costumes sporting posters and holding placards as they mingled in the crowds along the Carnival float parade route were initially accosted by a group of policemen.
After a brief verbal encounter, the police let them off but not before they confiscated from them a prop in the shape of a coffin they were carrying to depict a mock “funeral of Panaji city” one of the protesters said.
‘Pity my City’, ‘Panjim deserves better’ ‘Smart Ways to Hell’, ‘Panjim our home, not your playground’, ‘Footbridge over troubled waters’ were some of the graffiti-styled posters the group either wore on their person or carried as placards.
While there was no any official communication by the group, it was evident that they were displaying their angst over the haphazard execution of Smart City works besides a few other projects like the footbridge at the mouth of the St Inez Creek, the proposed Ropeway between Reis Magos and Panaji,
among others.
A video clip of the brief encounter between the group and the policemen at a location near the Entertainment Society of Goa office along the DB Marg, has gone viral in local social media groups.
