The long delay in the construction of the road underpass at the Seraulim railway crossing dominated the gram sabha of Seraulim village panchayat on Sunday.
The gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Domingos Rodrigues also reiterated the decision of the panchayat demanding the construction of the Western bypass on stilts.
Gram sabha members questioned the delay over the construction of the under pass, pointing out that the increasing frequency of trains on the Konkan Railway route has only aggravated the problem for the villagers at the railway crossing.
Agitated members demanded that the panchayat take up the issue with the local MLA Churchill Alemao to pursue the matter with the government and expedite the project.
Sarpanch Domingos explained to the members about his meeting with the local MLA, saying the latter attributed the delay to the intervening election code of conduct.
The sarpanch informed that the MLA has assured to take up the issue with the Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, the gram sabha has once again resolved to demand the construction of the Western bypass on stilts. The resolution assumes significance given that the government has roped in a consultant to study the feasibility
of stilts.
The gram sabha has also discussed the issue of waste management in the village. The sarpanch informed that the panchayat has shortlisted two sites for the purpose of waste sorting, saying that the government agencies will study the feasibility of the sites.
