The Anjuna police arrested two persons for allegedly running a prostitution racket in the coastal stretch. Three women were rescued in the raid on Wednesday night. Sub Divisional Police Officer Jivba Dalvi informed that Mohsin Shaikh, a native of Gujarat, and Shilpi Mishra of Mumbai are taken into custody on charges of forcing gullible girls into the illegal trade and living on their earnings.
Acting on a tip-off, the team laid a trap and when Shaikh arrived at the destination to deliver a victim girl to the prospective customer, he was apprehended. The girl was rescued. She disclosed to the police the whereabouts of two other victim girls who were kept in a resort at Arpora. Accordingly, the police team visited the resort and rescued them as well.
All three rescued victims are lodged in the Protective Home while the accused are booked under sections 370, 370(3) read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 4 and 5 of the Immoral Trafficking Act.
