Post-Diwali, the BJP city-leaders will have a task at hand, how to go about shortlisting the candidate for the post of Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Vice Chairperson.
A couple of BJP-backed Councilors are believed to have evinced interest in contesting the poll for the post as and when it falls vacant. Though the post has not fallen vacant as yet. However, incumbent Vice Chairperson Deepali Sawal is reported to have already submitted her resignation to Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on September 28.
While Kamat has said that the candidate will be selected by state BJP leaders, it is learnt that BJP Councilor Camilo Barretto expressed his desire to contest the poll to the party leaders.
Camilo has told party leaders that since the post of MMC Chairperson is occupied by Councilor Damu Shirodkar, hailing from Margao constituency, the Vice Chairperson post should go to a candidate from Fatorda.
Sources informed that two other BJP-backed Councilors, one each from Margao and Fatorda areas, including a woman have also evinced interest in contesting the poll.
