Pernem excise officers confiscated illegal transportation of alcohol worth Rs 28 lakh at the Patradevi border in the wee hours of Thursday.
According to sources, a vehicle was leaving from Panaji to Maharashtra when officials of excise department stopped the vehicle at the Patradevi border.
Initially, the driver showed the documents but the officials suspected something fishy and a closer inspection revealed a huge amount of alcohol.
Officials then found out that there were 635 boxes of alcohol worth Rs 28.53 lakh.
The driver feigned innocence and claimed that someone had handed over the vehicle to him at Panaji bridge and he was unaware what the vehicle had contained.
The excise officers confiscated the vehicle along with the alcohol.
