Many parts of Sattari taluka are facing water shortage since the last four days, as the Dabose water treatment plant in Sattari has been affected by turbidity and erratic power supply.
Heavy rains in Sattari taluka in the last few days have caused high turbidity in the river water, which has, in turn, affected filtration at the Dabose water treatment plant.
To make matters worse, erratic power supply has further affected the machinery, leading to a shortage in water supply to many parts of Sattari taluka.
However, sources at the Dabose water treatment plant have claimed that water supply would be restored to all villages by Friday evening.
According to sources, Bhironda panchayat area has been among the worst affected villages as it is located at the tail end and as a result, water pressure is low.
Frequent power cuts have posed various problems at the Dabose water treatment plant and officials said it takes considerable time for the motors to restart and start pumping water, which further causes a delay in the supply of water to villages in Sattari taluka.
There have been repeated demands to provide backup power supply to the Dabose water treatment plant.
“Had the backup power supply been available, it would have provided continuous power to the Dabose water treatment plant, which would have ensured uninterrupted pumping and filtering operations,” said a source.
PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral had recently interacted with sarpanchas and panchas in Sattari and erratic water supply was one of the main issues raised at the meeting.
Residents have expressed disappointment that authorities cannot ensure proper power supply to the Dabos water treatment plant, which supplies water to nearly 70 per cent of Sattari taluka.
