Anjunem dam set to reach capacity earlier amid heavy downpour

VALPOI

The Anjunem Dam which provides drinking water to most parts of North Goa is expected to reach its capacity earlier this season on account of heavy rainfall in the area.

According to sources, the present water level is 84 metres, while the maximum level of the dam is 93 metres.

Following heavy rains in and around Chorla Ghat area over the last few days, the water level rose by about 7 metres in the Anjunem Dam and going by the predicted rainfall, the dam is expected to reach its capacity of 93 metres by the last week of this month.

When contacted, officers at Anjunem Dam said staff have been posted 24x7 to monitor water levels and to conduct maintenance work at the dam.

“For the last several years, the reservoir has reached its full capacity by the first week of August. However, given the current level of rainfall, the dam is likely to reach its capacity by the last week of July,” said an officer.
