The health department in Goa will soon distribute tablets with an internet connection to Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANMs) in Goa to digitally record patients data.

ANM collect data of pregnant women, mothers and newborns. Taking into account the issues faced by ANMs, the Union ministry of health and family welfare with support from UNICEF has introduced an android based tablet-based application called ANMOL.

The government has tendered to procure around 250 tablets for the purpose which will be loaded with the application and provided to ANMs.

The information about various schemes will also be pre-loaded in the tablets in audio-visual form.  The bidder company will have to take care of distribution, maintenance and internet of these tablets.

In case ANMs face any network connectivity issue in rural areas, the application will allow them to save data offline and once the tablet gets connectivity, the data will automatically get uploaded to the server.

The application will bring awareness to the remotest populations, under-served communities and urban slums and through images and videos educate them about initiatives on health, maintenance of good hygiene, basic health care and precautions, said a health official.   Apart from these facilities, women and couples can be counselled using audio and videos on ANMOL tablets on subjects like high-risk pregnancy, immunisation and family planning.
