Getting locked inside a toilet may not be an ideal situation, but it was the safest option for a leopard which strayed into the outdoor toilet at Kalay-Sanguem, enabling forest officials to rescue the animal unharmed.

North Goa Forest officials led by Anand Jadhav and accompanied by Collem RFO Sham Sunder Gawas on Monday rescued a leopard which was trapped by locals in a toilet Chanimol-Kalay.

A local, Anil Pandharmissal, informed that the incident took place while he was leaving the house for morning chores at about 6 am, when he noticed a leopard enter their outdoor toilet. He quickly alerted his nearby villagers who gathered in large numbers and managed to close the toilet door, where the leopard was hiding with a chicken.

The villagers then notified forest officials, who rescued the trapped leopard in an operation that lasted for around two hours. The rescued leopard was later taken to the Bondla Zoo for observation.

Meanwhile, Adv Amar Naik has appealed to forest department officials to visit the area on a regular basis to  keep a track of wildlife movement in the village in the interest of  public safety.
