Batting for app-based taxi service in Goa, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Friday said the chief minister should take all coastal MLAs into confidence to find a lasting solution to the GoaMiles controversy in the State.
“App-based taxi is a must. The leaders of the both the groups “ GoaMiles and local taxi owners “ have to come together. The chief minister and the coastal belt MLAs should also sit across the table to find an amicable solution to the issue,” Lobo said.
The Calangute MLA was responding on the app-based taxi controversy that has been brewing in the State.
Lobo refused to believe that local taxi owners were overcharging and fleecing the tourists arriving in the State. “Two to three percent of the taxi owners must be charging extra, not all. Everybody knows the prices. These are notified…,” he said.
Lobo admitted that local taxi owners do not have app-based taxis or metres fixed in their taxis.
Calling for transparency in rates, he said the taxi owners will have to change their attitude and agree on displaying of rates on digital meters or on an app.
“Finally, the price has to reflect on the digital meter or on an app. There has to be transparency on display of rates. I have requested the taxi owners that app-based taxis are required in Goa. They are saying we don’t want GoaMiles. So fine; start something of your own,” he averred.
The Calangute MLA said decision will have to be taken because of the High Court order on fixing of meters.
“There is no way out. GPS with meter has to be fitted on every tourist taxi,” he said.
He said fighting among drivers has to stop and a solution has to come in the interest of the Goan taxi owners and drivers.
“I have told the CM and I am confident that he will take all the local MLAs into confidence. I will put up what is there in my mind on how to bring about a solution
and it will be done,” Lobo said confidently.
