MARGAO
With the unprecedented spike of Covid-19 positive cases and increase in the number of Covid deaths in the country and especially in Goa, the United Goans Democratic Party President Dr Jorson Fernandes has said there’s no respite but to strictly follow the precautionary measures and Covid appropriate behaviour.
Dr Jorson pointed out that the non-medical administrators and politicians do not prepare for a disaster and the reflection of their mismanagement has been seen in the increased number of Covid cases and deaths in the State of Goa. “The largely irresponsible behaviour of the people and the lackadaisical attitude of law enforcing agencies coupled with poor strategic planning is manifested in the high infectivity that we see on our data,” he said.
Dr Jorson added: “It is important for the government to take an immediate call and postpone the Std X and XII examinations lest the students and teachers get infected with the virus causing still higher number of cases. Instead of detaining students who were justified in protesting to postpone the exams, the government should have detained tourists who have no RT-PCR negative certificates and those indulging in rave parties and moving around without a face mask. The rave parties and allowing hoards of tourists peeping into Goa without RT-PCR negative certificate has made matters worse.”
Saying the Covid-19 pandemic is a matter of lives and livelihood, Dr Jorson, however, said, “Our government is penny wise pound foolish. To keep the economy going, the government rakes up the money only to spend on the treatment of large number of Covid patients, thus having a negative effect on our resources with hardly any beds available and subsequently, it will be hardly any doctors available as the doctors too have also started testing positive”.
Dr Jorson said the Health Minister should feel ashamed as he is on record stating that the patients are on stretchers. “What a pitiful situation. When the increasing number of Covid patients and Covid deaths has been the trend in our data, proper and careful analysis of the data would rightly suggest to matchingly increase the stringent restrictions and create provisions for augmenting the required infrastructure. The government has failed in this regard and the reflection and manifestation of their failure is seen in the data of increased cases and increased deaths,” he said.
, adding, “It is time to take mature and logical decisions during this extraordinary pandemic which is especially a more virulent and dangerous second wave.”
