Govt must work out emergency measures to help ramp up facilities: Healthcare workers

Call for strict enforcement of SOPs in public places on priority

MARGAO
With the exponential rise in Covid cases and the mounting deaths by the day, doctors and para-medics handling the Covid-19 pandemic say the time has come for the government to work out emergency measures not just to put a stop to the rising cases, but help the system ramp up the facilities.

Having handled the situation in the first Covid wave last year, these medical officers and staff in private have called for strict enforcement of the social distancing and face masks norms in public places on priority.

Expressing concern over the worsening situation when both cases and deaths are showing a huge rise, doctors dealing with the situation say they find themselves in a situation wherein the existing system cannot effectively take care of the

situation. “The situation is fast deteriorating. The daily spike in the number of cases has put a heavy strain on the infrastructure and logistics. We have reached a situation when the cases as well as deaths are rising by the day. In this situation, some emergency steps are required from the government to stem the tide,” remarked a doctor.

“What prevents the law enforcing agencies to come down heavily on people loitering in public places without maintaining social distancing and without face masks. The authorities should understand the seriousness of the situation and act tough against the violators,” the doctor added.
