MARGAO
Three days after the hospital was re-notified as a Covid hospital, the number of patients admitted at the ESI hospital, Margao crossed the 100-figure mark on Tuesday.
The figure, however, came down to 98 by evening after two patients were shifted to the South Goa district hospital and two discharged after their recovery.
While the ESI doctors, nurses and para-medics attending to the patients on the first two days after the resumption of Covid operations, four resident doctors from the Goa Medical College and hospital, Bambolim have taken charge in the hospital. Nurses from the GMC and Directorate of Health Services also joined duties at the hospital, giving some respite to the ESI hospital doctors and staff.
Sources, however, said the GMC consultant is expected to assumed charge only on Wednesday.
For the moment, in the absence of logistics support, the ESI hospital is being made into a step down facility, to take care of patients from the South Goa district hospital and the Goa Medical College and Hospital who have showed signs of recovery.
However, no ICU and ITU facility for the moment, with ESI hospital officials saying the hospital will play host to ICU and ITU beds once the authorities put the infrastructure in place.
