Are 76 kiosk owners, vendors on rehab list?

OLD GOA
Are a total of 76 vendors going to be rehabilitated in the plan that has been prepared?

This question was doing the rounds as kiosk owner Domnic Pereira claimed that he has seen the PWD plan in which 75 kiosk owners and vendors are earmarked for rehabilitation.

“I have seen the PWD plan in which 76 shops are earmarked. The plan is awaiting final approval from the government. I have been told that more vendors who are doing business near the super-specialty block are also going to be rehabilitated in this plan as and when their kiosks are also removed,” Pereira informed the reporters.

“Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had said only the affected 38 vendors would be rehabilitated. Now they are saying that more vendors are going to be rehabilitated.”

“But, we are not bothered about that. They can even rehabilitate 500 people. What we are bothered is that our rehabilitation should happen. The demolition orders were only for 38 kiosk owners. But if the government wants to rehabilitate beyond that it is up to them,” he pointed out.

When contacted, a reliable source at the Collector’s office confirmed that the rehabilitation plan has been prepared to rehabilitate 76 kiosk owners and vendors.

“It includes 38 kiosk owners whose kiosks were demolished in the demolition drive and also around 20 vendors who were doing business near the temple. Also, another 18 kiosks who are doing business near the super-specialty block are also included in the plan,” said the source, while explaining how the number has gone up to 76.
