The Goa Pradesh Youth Congress demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should inform the people of Goa on the present status of the investigation and the mystery in the death of the young Nachinola girl Siddhi Naik.
Congress spokesperson Amarnath Panjikar and members of the Goa Pradesh Youth Congress (GPYC), on Saturday, visited the family members of Siddhi Naik, who was found dead on the Calangute beach a month ago and assured to be with them in their fight to seek justice to the victim.
GPYC President Varad Mardolkar said the government should make public the progress in the investigation being conducted into the Siddhi Naik death case.
He said the BJP government under the leadership of Pramod Sawant has failed in maintaining law and order in the State.
“The father of the victim in this case is seeking justice for her daughter. The government needs to respect him and the victim,” Mardolkar said.
Referring to the murder case of a local in Anjuna, Mardolkar said that now even tourists were coming to Goa and attacking the local residents. “This is happening because there is no fear of law in the State. It is evident that the government has failed to promptly investigate crimes and bring culprits to justice. This very act of police is encouraging criminals,” he said.
Mardolkar vowed to fight and seek justice to Siddhi Naik and her family.
The body of the 19-year-old Siddhi Naik was found in mysterious circumstances on the Calangute beach on August 12, a day after she was reported missing by her family.
The police had said the girl died of drowning and the autopsy report ruled out sexual assault or violence.
