The Sao Jose de Areal gram sabha on Sunday has adopted a resolution demanding equal status for Konkani in Roman script.
The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Carmeena Fernandes also adopted a resolution opposing the Sunburn music festival in South Goa. The meeting saw a host of issues taking the centre stage at the meeting, including the contentious issue of sub-division of plots without the final NOC.
Activist Freddy Travasso wondered how come plots could be sub-divided on provisional NOC, insisting that sub-division can take place only with the final NOC.
He also raised the contentious issue of Shivaji statue installed in the village in a property in February last. Freddy claimed that inquiries have revealed that around 40 plots have been made in the property, including two partitions.
He told the media that Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai, who had come to inaugurate the statue in controversial circumstances, should go through the documents and will realise that plots have been allegedly developed in the parcel of land.
