VASCO
A heated argument between a couple ended in murder when a civil contractor is alleged to have murdered his wife at their home in Shantinagar-Vasco on Friday afternoon.
The incident took place at about 2.30 pm when Chaloba Kesarkar (42), a native of Belgaum but residing at Shantinagar reached home and entered into a heated argument with his wife Vaishali (39), a native of Karwar.
Chaloba had been suspecting his wife of infidelity and the two had been embroiled in heated arguments on frequent occasions in the past.
Sometime earlier, Vaishali had even filed a complaint with the Vasco police accusing her husband of harassing her. Vasco police had registered her complaint as non-cognizable and had summoned Chaloba to the police station, where he was warned about his behaviour.
On Friday afternoon, Chaloba had returned home for lunch when he and Vaishali entered into a heated argument.
Chaloba grabbed an iron rod and struck Vaishali on the head. The impact was such that she collapsed on the floor.
Their 16-year-old son was not at home at the time of the incident and had gone to Vaishali’s maternal house in the vicinity to meet his grandmother.
Neighbours heard the commotion and alerted the police, while one neighbour alerted Vaishali’s father. He rushed to the site as neighbours gathered outside the house, while Chaloba remained inside.
A Vasco police team went to the site and found Vaishali dead in the room.
Chaloba is reported to have confessed to the crime and was later arrested on charges of murder. Further investigations are in progress.
