Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said that any structures erected on government land in Mayem evacuee property after 2014 will be demolished while insisting on the importance of verifying land ownership before making any purchases.
“Government will not tolerate illegal constructions,” Sawant said after chairing a review meeting at the Secretariat.
He stated that they have instances where land dealers and agents have built on and sold plots demarcated on the property, which is illegal. “These plots and any structures on them are illegal and will be demolished,” he reiterated.
CM also advised land buyers to thoroughly verify property documents before purchasing.
In December last year, Sawant had issued the same warning that construction of new houses on the Mayem evacuee property would be demolished. “After awarding sanads for ownership to locals residing on evacuee properties, the remaining land would remain under government control and be used for developmental projects. Building and claiming rights on government property is unacceptable,” he was quoted as saying.
Everyone involved “ the builder, the seller, and the buyer “ must heed this warning. “Government land must not be misused or illegally sold, and unauthorised extraction of resources like laterite will not be permitted,” he said.
The CM also disclosed that in the cases concerning property cases, 700 out of 810 have been disposed of. “The remaining cases are pending due to lack of proper documentation,” he added.
Saloi-Chorao Bridge
Regarding the delayed Saloi-Chorao Bridge project, Sawant instructed officials to expedite the land acquisition and approval processes and to provide regular progress updates. “Some landowners are not traceable. We have nonetheless formed a team with Revenue Secretary Sandip Jacques as its nodal officer, to monitor and report on the situation every fortnight. The bridge project will be expedited,” he assured.
