With health facilities far and few for residents of Mudder, a remote area in Cansaulim, it was no wonder that about 300 of them attended a free dental and medical camp on Saturday.
Two medical vans equipped with doctors, medical staff and volunteers carried out camp, as part of the Arogya Express initiative.
Speaking to reporters, Colorcon Asia Pvt Ltd (CAPL) HR Director Sarvesh Parab said the company’s Arogya Express health project had 3 full-fledged medical vans and one dental van with all facilities.
"Once we get a request, our team visits the remote areas to assess if the village is in need of the facility. We even verify the distance of the location from the health centres and the number of senior citizens in the area,” said Parab.
“We offer facilities free of cost and also provide free medicines to needy patients. This Arogya Express initiative has been since 2014 and we upgrade our vehicles every year."
A resident, Anant Satarkar, said he along with fellow villagers had contacted the company on hearing about the initiatives taken by the company for people in remote areas.
"I was a part of a taxi service engaged with the company and noticed how the company went out to provide water supply solutions to a remote area in Quelossim,” said Satarkar.
“We learnt that the company had been offering facilities in different remote areas like free eye camps, supplying bio-toilets and building computer labs in remote schools. We contacted them for a medical camp in our Mudder area in Cansaulim.”
"We have a large population with many senior citizens. There are limited bus services and the primary health centre is far away, causing hardship to people. This free medical camp is a big blessing and we have been informed that medical vans will arrive once or twice a month here," said Satarkar.
Cansaulim Sarpanch Jose Maria Furtado thanked the company for the medical camp and for provided free medicines to residents.
"Health facilities are not always available in remote areas and far-flung villages and such initiatives, medical facilities are made available at the doorsteps of people in these areas," said Furtado.
