Two persons were arrested on charges of assault and theft on Saturday, Mapusa Police informed.
Police swung into action and promptly apprehended the accused Rahul Rathod (20) of Moira and Lucky Krishna Chetri (24) of Mapusa, both of whom have reportedly admitted to the crime.
The stolen property has also been recovered from the accused.
According to the complainant Ashok Mulmule, the accused assaulted two of his relatives at the KTC bus-stand on Friday night.
He said his relatives were assaulted with wooden danda, slaps and kicks and further the accused stole a mobile phone, wallet containing personal documents like learner’s licence and Adhar card and cash of Rs 2,000.
Soon after registering the complaint, Mapusa Police nabbed the two accused and brought them at the police station.
During the interrogation, the accused admitted their involvement in the crime.
Police also managed to recover the stolen property “ a mobile phone and Rs 2,000 cash.
The accused has been arrested under Sections 504 (restraint), 324 (using dangerous weapons), 326 (assault) and 394 (causing hurt while committing robbery) r/w 34 of the IPC.
PSI Ashish Porob, Head Constable Sushant Chopdekar and Police Constables Prakash Polekar, Rajesh Kanolkar and Prasad Gaonkar were instrumental in gathering information and nabbing the accused.
PSI Ashish Porob is investigating further under the supervision of Mapusa PI Tushar Lotlikar and SDPO Gajanan Dessai.
