The Aronda-Kiranpani bridge, built by the Maharashtra government, connects villages in Maharashtra
and Goa. Goans can easily go to prominent tourist places in the neighbouring Maharashtra.
Earlier, people used to cross the river Tiracol with the help of ferry boats or canoes, but after a long pending demand, the bridge was finally built by the Maharashtra government. People from both the states benefited, but due to darkness it has caused difficulties for the motorists and others who travel at night.
Speaking to The Goan, a fisherwoman from Aronda, Nilima Kude said she use the bridge to go to Arambol to sell fish and while returning from Armbol, the youth passes lewd comments at women at night.
“We demand with the government to deploy police force at the site to ensure safety of the women at night,” demanded Kude.
One Baban, a rickshaw driver, said he has to wait for his customers in the dark.
“Maharashtra and Goa governments should take initiative and install street lights on the bridge,” he added.
