As many as 225 traffic violators were booked in Panaji on the third day of a joint enforcement drive by Goa Police, on Friday, with the majority booked for helmet-less riding, driving without a seat belt and tinted glasses.
Separate teams of the Traffic Police headed by Traffic SP Bossuet Silva, SP (North) Nidhin Valsan, DySP (Traffic-North) Sidhant Shirodkar and Panaji Traffic Police conducted the drive across four major places near multi-level car parking, four pillar junction, Grand Hyatt junction and Neura underpass junction. The officers also held awareness among the riders and drivers to ensure that road safety laws are adhered to.
From the total challans issued to the violators, the single-day collection of the fine amount was recorded at Rs 1.50 lakh approx.
The department has revived the enforcement drive against the backdrop of rising accidents in the State, and henceforth it will be carried out at least three times a week with assistance from Robot Vehicles and Pink Force also to be sought. The first two days of the drive at Mapusa and Pernem saw several locals and foreigners booked for various traffic violations.
