District Collector Swapnil Naik told the media that it would be not nothing less than Rs 1.5 crore to Rs two crore per annum to maintain the imposing district collectorate building. The cost includes outsourcing of the maintenance of the air conditioned facility, lifts, sweeping and other services.
With the district collectorate receiving a heft power bill of Rs five lakh a month, it has now been proposed to allot separate billing meters for govt depts housed in the building other than revenue.
The building, which was inaugurated way back in February 2013, was initially maintained by the GSIDC for an initial period of 3 years. "The GSIDC had made a host of rectifications during their maintenance contract. The problem over the upkeep and maintenance arose after the contract expired in June-July last year. But, we overcome the problems relating to the lifts, air condition systems, et al," he said.
Swapnil said the Collectorate has entered into an agreement with the Forest Department to look after the gardens, adding that the Collectorate will go for solar powered external lighting in the immediate future.
