As Delhi chokes, Sonia & Rahul temporarily shift base to Goa

PANAJI/VASCO
All India Congress Committee President Sonia Gandhi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi landed at Dabolim airport on Friday afternoon at around 3 pm. Sonia Gandhi was advised to shift out of Delhi and avoid the bad air quality and pollution in the national capital owing to her "chronic chest infection". Amidst heavy security and police force, the mother and son made their way out of the Airport and towards a resort in South Goa.

Sources said that the Gandhi family will be staying for a few days at the Leela Goa Resort at Mobor, Cavelossim.

Sonia Gandhi was discharged from the hospital in August this year. Following this, she was flown abroad in September for a routine medical check-up. However, the poor air quality in New Delhi has merely aggravated her asthma and chest infection.

As a result, her medical team advised her to temporarily shift out of Delhi.

She had previously stayed in Goa in the month of February this year as a part of her rehabilitation, sources from the party recalled.

“There were plans that Sonia Gandhi accompanied by either son Rahul Gandhi or daughter Priyanka Vadra may move out of Delhi to either Chennai or Goa for a few days. Sonia was suffering from chronic chest infection and was under heavy medication after she was discharged from Sir Ganga Ram hospital in Delhi on July 30.  Sonia had later gone abroad along with Rahul Gandhi for a routine check up in September missing the Monsoon session of Parliament which was held under special conditions during the pandemic " said the source.

It was also disclosed that the doctors expressed concerns about her consistent chest infection and she was advised by the doctors to briefly shift out from Delhi.
