PONDArrIt may be recalled that in the wee hours of Friday, some unknown persons took away an ATM machine containing Rs 3.90 lakh from Usgao. Lekharaj Mashelkar, manager of Hitachi Payment Services, lodged a complaint in this regard. rOn Friday morning, police and bank officials were reluctant to divulge any information about the incident, claiming that bank officials had taken the ATM machine for repairs. rIn the CCTV footage, three persons in raincoats with their faces covered, were seen entering the ATM premises. One among them was slightly visible though he tried to cover his face. rThe ATM was not manned by security guards, which made the job of the burglars easy as they managed to uninstall the machine without any fear. This ATM is located about 200 metres from the bank. rIn its preliminary investigation, police have found that the ATM was not installed as per official guidelines.
ATM theft: Cops pin hopes on CCTV footage
After recovering the stolen ATM in a nullah at Velguem-Pale, Ponda police are in the process of drawing a sketch of one accused, whose face was partially captured on CCTV footage.
