A JCB demolishes the club in Baga.

A demolition squad razed the three-storeyed Club Tao in Khobrawada-Baga, following directives from a District Fast Track Court.
On July 28, 2023, the Calangute Panchayat had issued a demolition order to the club, after revoking its business license, as the club near CSM Junction in Baga was accused of running illegal business with illegal expansion.
The Panchayat’s action was challenged by the owners of Club Tao before the Directorate of Panchayats (DoP).
The DoP on January 5, 2024 upheld the order of the Calangute Panchayat and rejected the petition of the owners of Club Tao. The owners of club then filed a review petition challenging the order of DoP before the North Goa District Fast Track Court.
After hearing the case, the court on April 24 dismissed the petition and held that the order of the DoP could not be interfered with. After the Fast Track Court disposed off the petition, the DoP directed the Calangute Panchayat and Block Development Office to implement the order.
Accordingly on Monday, the Demolition Squad under the supervision of the BDO Prathamesh Shankardas took up the task to demolish the club with the help of a JCB.
Most of the three-storeyed building was demolished by evening.
A police team was present to ensure law and order at the site.
