Responding to complaints from villagers regarding the dilapidated condition of the bridge at Costi village in Sanguem, Deputy Collector Sanguem Ajit Gaude accompanied by PWD Engineer Nadkarni, local panchayat member Suraj Naik and Adv Amar Naik conducted the site inspection of the bridge to take stock of the condition of the bridge.
The villagers in their complaint to the Deputy Collector Sanguem had brought to fore of the worsening condition of the Costi bridge and had sought stoppage of the movement of heavy vehicles over it.
The bridge which proceeds to Curchorem town via Chowgule mines from Costi is worn out and the cement plaster underneath the bridge has washed away due to rains.
A villager, Adv Amar Naik informed that the bridge was built by the Portuguese and was repaired by the PWD some years back. Presently, only the structure of the bridge which was built by Portuguese is in place while the renovation work done by the PWD has washed away leaving the bridge in a weakened state. The gaps in between the laterite stones of the bridge and its foundation is visible and exposed, informed Naik.
Deputy Colkector Ajit Gaude after the site inspection informed that the report prepared by the PWD would be looked into and sent to the higher authorities for further necessary action.
Costi Kalay villagers demand immediate repair of village road
Sanguem: The villagers of Costi Kalay in Sanguem have urged the PWD authorities for immediate repairs of the road proceeding to Costi from Sanguem near Marques Farm. Villagers informed that the stretch of the road proceeding to Costi from Sanguem is in bad condition and has developed potholes near Marques Farm.
The situation is all the more worsened as the said stretch of the road also lack drains for the flow of monsoon water due to which the monsoon water from the road side hillock flows across the road thereby making it difficult for the vehicle riders notice the potholes during heavy rains.
The road to Costi via Sanguem is widely used by the people travelling to Kalay, Collem and Darbsndora and also at times by people proceeding to Dudsagar waterfalls.
