With the Mandur Rural Health and Training Centre (RHTC) still lacking in some of the facilities, St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar held an inspection of the RHTC along with GMC Dean Dr Bandekar, RHTC in-charge Dr Jagdish Cacodkar, health officials and others on Wednesday.
The inspection was held after MLA Borkar’s meeting with the Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane over the pending facilities.
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, MLA Borkar said there are several facilities yet to be available at the RHTC, due to which the inspection was conducted.
"The RHTC still lacks basic blood testing facility, X-Ray facility, lack of senior resident doctors, etc. Also, the labour room doesn’t have a toilet facility. Distribution of medicine needs to be streamlined, along with other areas which need to be improved upon," Borkar informed.
The MLA also made a mention of the dilapidated staff quarters which needs to be demolished and rebuilt.
"All these issues have been discussed with the GMC Dean and I am hoping that the facilities will be provided at the earliest,' Borkar stated.
He then thanked the Health Minister for providing an advanced life support ambulance to the health centre which comes in handy for patients in St Andre constituency who face emergencies like heart attacks.
"We did not have such an ambulance and upon my demand, the health minister immediately provided the same to the constituency," Borkar said while adding that attempts are underway to get more ambulances in the constituency through CSR.
Dean Dr Bandekar informed that the pending facilities will be provided to the RHTC at the earliest like X-Ray machine, auto analyzer for blood tests, etc.
"But since there is a procedure that needs to be followed, a minimum of three months will be required to put things in place,” Dr Bandekar said.
Dr Bandekar further opined that if health facilities are available at the RHTC, it would also help in taking the load off the GMC hospital.
He then informed that a new ambulance has been purchased for early detection of cancer.
"We will hold the first camp at the Mandur RHTC and station the ambulance for a week for the benefit of people from St Andre constituency," Dr Bandekar said.
Director of Health Services Dr Rupa Naik, Under Secretary (Health I & II), Corlim PHC MO Dr Kedar Raikar, Mandur sarpanch Prashant Naik and others were present.
