The Manohar International Airport (MIA) has earned a spot among the top 100 airports globally in the Skytrax 2024 rankings, a distinction that places it alongside only four other Indian airports, including those in Delhi and Hyderabad.
Skytrax, an international aviation research organisation, conducts the world’s largest Airport Customer Satisfaction survey, which gathers opinions from travellers around the globe.
MIA has been ranked at 92 in the list and only 5 Indian airports made it in the list of Skytrax World’s Top 100 Airports for 2024. They are Delhi (36), Bengaluru (59), Hyderabad (61), Mopa (92) and Mumbai (95).
The prestigious Skytrax World Airport Awards, is often considered the Oscars in the airport industry.
MIA, developed by GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL), has shown impressive growth since its inauguration, handling over 3 million passengers and connecting to 25 domestic and four international destinations.
Domestic airlines such as Indigo, Akasa Air, Vistara, SpiceJet and Fly91 operate from MIA, while international services are provided by Air India, Oman Air, Indigo, and Tui. Qatar Airways will join this list from June 20. The airport has served over 5 million passengers, significantly transforming Goa’s air traffic landscape by maintaining consistent air traffic year-round, defying historical trends of summer declines. The number of domestic destinations connected to Goa has more than doubled, increasing from 14 to 29.
MIA’s commitment to innovation is highlighted by the implementation of the Digi Yatra programme on April 1, 2024. This initiative uses facial recognition technology to facilitate faster and more seamless check-ins.
The ongoing Phase 3 Stage 1 expansion aims to further enhance the airport’s capacity, allowing it to accommodate 8 million passengers annually.
This expansion is expected to be completed before the winter schedule of 2024.
The recognition from Skytrax underscores MIA’s rapid development and its pivotal role in boosting Goa’s connectivity and tourism.
