“Government should first recover all dues with interest from the organizers of the Sunburn before considering issuing fresh permission to the EDM,” said Parulekar.
He said music festivals like the EDMs should happen in Goa as these give State tourism industry the added fillip besides giving Goa international exposure.
“EDMs are not a problem… managing them may be a little troublesome… But then they also fetch revenue to the government,” he said.
The former tourism minister further said it was not necessary to hold the EDMs during the peak tourism season and could be easily spaced out in the calendar year.
“It’s not a must that the EDMs should take place only during the Christmas season. The festival could be organized even in the new year,” he said.
It may be recalled that first Sunburn and then Supersonic were being held in Goa during the Christmas season mostly December-end.
Last year, the State government delayed in issuing permission to Sunburn on account of pending past payments. Finally, the organizers shifted the venue to Pune.
Current trend is no for music: ex-MLA
MAPUSA: Former water resources minister and Siolim MLA Dayanand Mandrekar said everyone was in “no, no” mode when it came to music in Goa.
“The current trend is no, no for music,” said Mandrekar, his target very obvious, when questioned whether EDMs should be held in Goa.
He, however, opined that any decision on mega events such as EDMs rested with the home ministry and it is not appropriate for anyone to speak on the subject.
