DOUBTS OVER TIES WITH SURENDRA?
* Surendra Furtado and his wife Ruth have failed to make it to the first list despite there being a prior agreement between the two
* I do not know what is the state (of the alliance). You need two hands to clap. My hand is ready I am waiting for the reaction, says Monserrate
* Both Surendra and Babush have reiterated that their alliance is on and that they will not contest against each other
* The terms of the agreement are yet to be made public and it isn’t certain whether it will be honoured by either party after the polls

PANAJI: Taleigao strongman Atanasio “Babush” Monserrate unveiled a panel of 21 aspiring corporators as he set the ball rolling for his campaign for the March 06 CCP elections.
In contention are controversial former corporators Dayanand Karapurkar and Uday Madkaikar, who have in the past been accused of misdeeds especially with regard to the Panaji market shop allotment scam as well as several seasoned faces like that of current deputy mayor Bento Lorena, Nazareth Cabral and others.
In the race is Lata Parekh, the wife of former mayor and current corporator Yatin Parekh who is contesting from his current ward No 14, which has been reserved for women and Soraya Pinto Makhija the sister of former deputy mayor Kabir Pinto Makhija who is contesting from his ward No 11 as that too was reserved for women.
Interestingly, Rahul Lotlikar whose wife is currently a BJP corporator from Ward No 7 has been given a ticket by the Monserrate panel.
Wards No 9 and 10 currently represented by Surendra and Ruth Furtado have not been named in the first list released by Babush.
Speaking to media persons, Monserrate expressed confidence that his panel would emerge victorious.
“I am beginning my campaign from tomorrow, going house to house. I am confident that what the AAP managed to achieve in Delhi we will achieve here in Panjim. We will win 27 out of 30 seats,” Monserrate said.
He said that his thrust on Panaji would be to oust the BJP on account of its failures to take care of the city of Panaji.
“You will know the issues I am fighting on when I release my manifesto, which will be about two weeks before the elections. The failure of the smart city in Panaji will be part of the manifesto,” Monserrate said.
He added that the BJP’s handling of the issue has resulted in the city receiving only an ‘ATKT’ in the smart city challenge. “Panjim has failed. They have got ATKT and are waiting to know whether they passed or they failed,” he added.
He said that he would release his final list soon after some of the chosen candidates acquire their caste certificates as well as having to choose the right candidate for the ward.
