The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Goa Legislative Assembly will meet on July 7 to plan the business for the 15-day monsoon session, which begins on July 21.
The BAC is led by Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar and includes the Chief Minister, Leader of the Opposition, and one MLA each from the MGP, GFP, RGP and an independent MLA.
During this session, the Assembly will pass the State Budget 2025-26, which was presented on March 26.
Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao, who has often criticised the government for reducing Assembly sittings to avoid accountability, has also raised concerns about the BAC meeting being held after the Governor has already summoned the session. “BAC should normally take place before the session is summoned. Now the session is announced, the days are fixed, and then the BAC meets. What is the point?” he questioned.
He said the BAC meeting is only a formality, and the opposition’s demands are never accepted. “We have repeatedly raised concerns in the BAC about the shrinking Assembly sessions, but nothing changes,” he said.
Alemao pointed out that last year’s monsoon session lasted 18 days, but this year it has been cut by three days. He warned that the Opposition will use the session to highlight the alleged corruption and failures of the government, including issues of governance and public welfare.
