Gold ornaments, cash, and a mobile phone worth over Rs 20.6 lakh were stolen from a passenger travelling on the Poorna Express with his family while the train was en route from Londa Junction to Kulem on October 19.

The incident came to light after the complainant, Kailas P, a resident of Kerala, lodged a complaint stating that the theft occurred between 9.30 am and 10 am while he, his wife, and daughter were travelling from Miraj to Ernakulam. His wife’s handbag, which was kept near their seat, went missing during the journey.

The stolen items included six gold bangles, one gold necklace, one bracelet, six rings, and five pairs of earrings — all weighing around 200 grams — along with a mobile phone valued at Rs 60,000 and Rs 62,700 in cash, collectively worth about Rs 20.6 lakh. Based on the complaint, Vasco Railway Police registered a case under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The investigation is being carried out by PSI Krishna Talpi under the supervision of PI Amarnath Passi and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.

Police are verifying CCTV footage at various railway stations along the route and coordinating with RPF and police units in neighbouring states to trace the suspects.
