MAPUSA: The Sunburn electronic dance music festival could well find a new venue this year, with the organisers reportedly short-listing a site in Baga for the upcoming event.
According to sources, the organisers are reported to have sought permission from the Calangute Panchayat to host the event in Baga from December 27 to December 30.
Sources added that the organisers could be considering a shift in the venue, given the many hurdles it had encountered while organising the festival at Vagator since the past two years.
Some groups have filed petitions, accusing the organisers of noise pollution
“The site chose by the organisers is a public parking space at Baga, which is owned by the government. Compare to the previous venues at Candolim and Vagator, the Baga parking place is vast,” the source added.
When contacted, Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said he had no idea that the Sunburn festival organiser had plans to shift the venue from Vagator to Baga.
“The proposal to shift this EDM not yet reached the tourism department so far,” clarified Parulekar.
In a related development, the Calangute panachayat has convened a special Gram Sabha on December 13 to deliberate on this issue.
