Construction of the Bagwada bridge at Morle has been completed, while work on the approach road is in its final stage. The bridge is expected to be opened to the public in the coming months, said Poriem MLA Dr Deviya Rane after inspecting the project.
Public Works Department Assistant Engineer Zilbarao Desai, Morle Sarpanch Rupesh Malik, panchayat members and officials were present during the inspection. They reviewed the remaining work on the approach road and discussed the project’s progress.
Dr Rane said residents had been demanding a new bridge as the existing structure was narrow and caused difficulties. She said Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant approved the project, while the support of former PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral and incumbent Minister Digambar Kamat helped advance the work.
The bridge across the Valvanti River is expected to improve connectivity between Morle and Keri. Residents currently have to travel an additional 12 kilometres to reach the neighbouring panchayat. The new bridge will reduce the distance and travel time.
Dr Rane said efforts would be made to open the bridge once the approach road work is completed.
She also said proposals had been submitted to the government for widening internal roads in the area. The proposed improvements are expected to facilitate access to the bridge and improve connectivity in the surrounding villages.
